Public Meeting: There will be a public meeting Friday, August 29, at 6 p.m. in the main auditorium at Oakridge Junior/Senior High School, located at 47997 W 1st St. Oakridge. The meeting will be livestreamed on the Willamette National Forest Facebook page, and shared on the Emigrant Fire Facebook page.

CURRENT STATUS:The Emigrant Fire continues to burn actively, with winds and slope alignment determining much of the fire’s spread. Fire is burning rapidly uphill to the west and east through critically dry fuels. The fire is slowly backing downhill toward Forest Road 21.

Emigrant Fire is producing a large plume of smoke, with the majority of the consumption in the 2009 Tumblebug Fire scar. Embers carried aloft in the plume can be transported ahead of the main fire, creating spot fires. Most of these spot fires are within ¼ mile of the head of the fire, but still pose a threat to firefighters and containment lines they are building. Personnel and aircraft are watching for new ignitions, particularly any beyond the planned control lines. Locating and extinguishing spot fires is a priority for firefighters.

Fire personnel are making progress containing a 3-acre fire north of Forest Road 21 on Sierra Pacific Industries land. The area is fully plumbed with hoses and has control lines in place. Firefighters are mopping up this fire, searching for and extinguishing any residual hot areas.

WEATHER:Dry thunderstorms are less likely today, but high temperatures and extremely low humidity will make active fire behavior likely.
