MOON COMPLEX FIRE UPDATEThursday, September 11, 2025

Size: 3,910 acres
Containment: 4%
Total Personnel: 544 Cause: Lightning

Weather: Marine stratus clouds will quickly burn off this morning, with mostly sunny skies expected during the afternoon. Fuels will receive full-sun today and begin their drying trend. Valley high temperatures will be around 80 degrees and ridgetop highs will be around 74 degrees. Relative humidities will be around 40% in the valleys and 50% on the ridges. Winds will be light today with gusts around 14 mph.
Situation: Fuels remain wet after recent precipitation but will begin drying out over the next few days. Soil and fuel moistures remain high, moderating fire behavior and reducing the chances of fire spotting. Fire behavior will primarily be smoldering and creeping, however, due to the steep terrain, rolling and falling debris can ignite new fires at the base of slopes. Firefighters across the area will be engaged in line construction and improvement measures today. Structure prep along the river will remain a major operation.

Backbone Fire – The Backbone Fire is 1,800 acres. Yesterday, crews continued line construction along Panther Ridge and down Clay Hill. In the coming days, crews hope to have containment line completed from the ridgetop to the Rogue River. Fire managers continue to scout for additional features that can be used for line and to connect the ridge to the river. Today, firefighters will work to finish line construction and begin reinforcing lines built over the last week.

Pinnacle Fire – The Pinnacle Fire is 2,084 acres. Firefighters were able to finish prepping the 127 Rd yesterday. While in the area, fire managers assessed the fire behavior and fuel types and determined that firefighters could engage in direct tactics on the southern tip of the fire. In the Brushy Bar area, crews took advantage of moderated fire behavior and built direct line along the fire’s edge. Firefighters continue mop-up operations and have begun snagging and hazard tree operations around Paradise Lodge. Structure protection will continue on the various outbuildings, toilets, bridges, and other structures along the river.

Tate Fire – The Tate Fire is 26 acres and has been contained. Crews will remain in the area in patrolling and monitoring status to watch for any upticks in fire behavior in the interior of the burned area.
