Weather:Today’s weather will be slightly warmer than recent days with highs in the upper around 76 on the ridgetops and around 80 in the valleys. Relative humidities are expected to be between 40 and 45 percent. Winds will be out of the southwest at 6 to 10 miles per hour with gusts between 15 and 18 miles per hour. A trough will move into the area overnight and bring much needed moisture into the area. Some gusty outflow winds may occur, but fire behavior will be moderated by the higher humidities, cloud cover, and lower temperatures, along with any rain that may occur.

Situation:Today, firefighters will continue to improve fireline that has been constructed over recent days along the accessible sections of the fires. In other areas, firefighters will be improving old roads to gain access to the fires by cutting dead and down trees, removing brush, and improving roadways. Structure protection will continue throughout the area. Several helicopters will continue bucket operations across the four fires as conditions allow.

  • Backbone Fire – The Backbone Fire is 1088 acres. Yesterday, crews conducted tactical firing operations around the Paradise Lodge to slow down the fire’s progression towards the lodge. Additional firefighters will follow behind the firing operations to mop-up any remaining hotspots. The lodge has seen multiple days of structure protection which includes sprinkler systems and increases in defensible space.
  • Brushy Fire – The Brushy Fire is 218 acres. Firefighters will be working to improve access to the fire. Dozers have opened FS Road 217 to allow crews to drive closer to the fire and felling crews will cut snags along the road to increase accessibility and provide for safer travel. While crews work to gain access, firefighters will also be assessing natural features that can be used alongside the fireline crews plan to construct. These natural features, such as ridgetops, rivers, and cliffs, can be used to help slow fire spread in the coming days when paired with constructed fireline. Firefighters will be assessing opportunities to construct fireline down to the Rogue River over the next several days.
  • Pinnacle Fire – The Pinnacle Fire is 904 acres. Firefighters will be continuing structure protection operations around Half-Moon Lodge ahead of the fire today. After successful tactical firing operations, crews will be holding the primary fireline around the lodge and will begin mop-up operations to reduce any remaining hot spots in the area.
  • Tate Fire – The Tate Fire is 19 acres. Firefighters have been working diligently over the past several days to construct fireline around the Tate Fire. Crews have constructed hose lays and continue to improve the existing line. Felling crews now work to remove dead and hazardous trees from the area.

Evacuations:An evacuation order remains in place for the Paradise and Half-Moon Lodge areas. Please see the Curry County Sheriff’s Office website for more information.

Closures:The Rogue River trail is under an emergency closure due to fire activity.
